Veteran Services in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, New Mexico

At Life Spire Assisted Living, we deeply honor our veterans and their commitment to service and sacrifice. As a service to veterans, we accept the Aid and Attendance pension benefit for those who qualify. Our services are an expense that veterans can add to their reimbursement request for Aid and Attendance.

What is Aid and Attendance?
Aid and Attendance (A&A) is a pension benefit service for veterans and their spouses provided by the VA. Veterans and their spouses must meet certain qualifications to be eligible for A&A.

Qualification for Aid and Attendance
Qualification for A&A depends on three things:

  • Income limits
  • The service of veterans or a spouse in the military during wartime
  • Whether the applicant requires aid with activities of daily living

When calculating income limits, the VA allows non-reimbursed medical expenses over 5% of annual income to be taken from the total income.

Qualifying wartime includes:

  • World War II
  • Korean Conflict
  • Vietnam Era
  • Persian Gulf War
  • Future Dates

Aid with daily personal functions includes:

  • When the individual requires the help of another to:
    • Bathe
    • Eat
    • Dress
    • Adjust prosthetic devices
    • Protect himself/herself from the hazards of the daily living environment
  • When the veteran or spouse is bedridden
  • When the veteran or spouse is living in an elder care facility due to mental or physical disability
  • If the veteran or spouse is blind or nearly blind

Disability does not have to be service-related to qualify.
